A staple part of the MNF is the song that kicks off the weekday sports festivities. A song that's recognized by football fans both near and far - Hank William's Jr's "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight." This song just makes you want to grab a beer and your bestest friend and head to the local bar to celebrate being an American.
In 2006, Hank reworked his "Rowdy" song to fit the MNF theme. In fact, October of that same year - Hank Williams Jr. shouted the "rowdy" phrase on top of the infamous "Cowboy Star" at Texas Stadium on the 50 yard line before the Cowboys kick-off.
However, this week's Monday game featuring the Colts and Bucs was sans Rowdy - and it will be continually from here on out. So why would ESPN pull such a fabulous musical tradition? Think of it as the separation of sports and state. Politically Charged Hank Williams Jr. went on Fox and Friends Monday morning and likened our President to Adolf Hitler (we'll hold our opinions on this one...AHEM).
Suffice to say - we'll miss the fabulous tradition.
Lesson learned - NEVER mix sports and state.
Stay informed,
